Thank you very much for inviting us to a lovely evening. Really touched. Well done to all the hard work you did to organise such a massive event. And also please convey to the Director that the film conveys so much about life and culture in Manipur, beautifully directed.

We had a wonderful evening last night. Thank you so much to MYL for coming up with such a fantastic idea, and executing it brilliantly. Lai-haraoba amongst other unique cultural signifiers is a very “inclusive” social rite. And in the metaphysical realm, beyond boundaries to the “cosmic” universal energy level. Personally a very proud moment to introduce our children to indelible footprint of Manipuri cinema on Cannes. Pabung Shyam Sharma’s celebrated directorial vision, and of course at the heart of the film the Ishanou script, Abokshi Wangonsana Binodini’s second story celebrated on international cinema. (Imagi Ningthem was her first winning international awards) I recall that Abokshi is renowned to be ahead of her times thinker lending a unique lens on female discourse and role of women in society. Ishanou is that for me too. I became nostalgic recalling my mother’s loud conversations with her aunt regarding society and woman and Abokshi’s halo of smoke as she sat puffing away. At that age it was all sound, yesterday some meaning dawned on me.

Ishanou Film Screening, London
29 Nov 2024, 19:00 - 22:30 GMT
St Luke's West Holloway Church, Hillmarton Rd, London N7 9JE, UK
MYL presents an evening of cultural celebration of Manipur with a screening of the magnum opus of Shri Aribam Syam Sharma's Ishanou ("The Chosen One") (screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival and recognized as a "World Classic" by the Cannes Film Festival 2023).
"Ishanou" is a moving story of love and grief immersed in Manipuri culture. The story beautifully contrasts the spiritual world of the Maibis with the rhythm of everyday life, emphasizing the coexistence of the occult and the tangible in the same reality. The film unfolds beautifully to the mesmerizing sounds of the Pena (traditional string instrument), the bamboo flute and incantation hymns.
The evening will include a short dance recital to introduce the film and a short Q&A session after. There will be snacks and drinks at the venue.
Donations will be welcomed at the door. We look forward to seeing you!
Aleksandra's Half Marathon for Manipur's IDPs
Sep 29, 2024
Hi everyone,

My name is Aleksandra Anastazja Angom, and I'm a 17-year-old student in London.
I would like to thank everyone who supported my fund raising appeal in material and in spirit. I participated in this year's Ealing Half Marathon on the 29th of September 2024. The half marathon was a 13.1 miles (21km) race and I am proud to inform you that I completed the race in 2hrs and 7 minutes.
My father's home state of Manipur in India has unfortunately been in a conflict situation for the last 16 plus months, rendering more than 60,000 individuals homeless and now living in inhumane relief camps as IDP's (Internally Displaced Persons).
I dedicate my efforts and the fund raising for Manipur, this will be handed over to Meetei Yaipha Lup (London), who will then plan and utilise the funds in the best possible manner for the IDP’s of Manipur in whatever small way this amount can best help.
Thank you once again for all your generous support.

Charity Run for Manipur
July 14, 2024
Okram Bishwajit Singh, a London-based chartered accountant and a MYL member organised a charity run called the “Charity Run for Manipur” and raised over 2 Lakhs with support from his friends and relatives. Participating in the “10K Charity Run” held in London on July 14, Bishwajit joined 17,000 other runners as they traversed the iconic landmarks of central London, including Big Ben, the London Eye, and Trafalgar Square.
The funds raised were distributed on August 18, with each of the 33 economically disadvantaged women, mainly widows, receiving Rs 6,000 each. These women, taking refuge in various relief camps, have faced significant hardships due to the violence that erupted on May 3 last year and led to over 220 deaths, thousands injured, and nearly 60,000 displaced.
Bishwajit, originally from Thoubal district, expressed his gratitude to his mother, Okram Jamuna Devi, his father, Okram Premchand Singh, and members of the World Meetei Council, who personally visited the relief camps to distribute the funds.
